A major July Fourth celebration is rarely just a fireworks display, and this year carries extra meaning as the country marks America’s 250th anniversary. In many cities, Independence Day is an all-day celebration with food vendors, concerts, family activities, pop-up markets, carnival rides, and thousands of people gathering for the main event.
That is what makes the right RV home base so important. For most major city fireworks displays, the RV should stay at the campground while you use a smaller vehicle, shuttle, rideshare, public transit, or an early drive into the viewing area. Liberty Harbor is not trying to be a wooded retreat, and that is exactly the point. For a New York City fireworks trip, its biggest advantage is location, with water and electric hookups at each site, a dump station available, and easier access to Manhattan than most RV travelers will find anywhere nearby.
The convenience is the highlight of this park. There is a ferry 20 steps from the RV park that goes straight to Manhattan. For those a little more adventurous, there’s a 10–15 minute walk up to the metro which they call PATH. Cherry Hill Park works especially well for Washington, D.C., because it solves one of the hardest parts of visiting the capital by RV: getting close without getting tangled in city traffic. With transit access, family amenities, and a polished campground feel, it lets you treat the National Mall as the day trip and the campground as the place to recover.

Major fireworks weekends fill quickly, and popular campgrounds can sell out months in advance. If you are planning late, check anyway. Cancellations, one-night gaps, and weekday openings sometimes appear, especially if your dates are flexible or you can stay before or after the holiday rush.
