An incredible number of factors are involved in getting a supercar from the drawing board through concept stages and into eventual production. The design language, aerodynamics, performance, and pricing are just some of the elements that have to complement each other with a minimal margin for error.

It is almost inevitable, then, that a supercar manufacturer will occasionally trip up and end up with a disappointing product. In some cases, the carmaker is lucky to escape with a slap on the wrist, but in other situations, the consequences of a supercar flop are much more severe, as some of the highlighted examples show.
#1: Jaguar XJ220

The journey of this low-slung British supercar began with so much promise. Jaguar initially did not plan on putting the XJ220 concept into production when it was first unveiled at the 1988 Birmingham Auto Show.
However, the highly positive reception changed all that, and the machinery for a production version was put in motion. Unfortunately, the carmaker ran into several issues during the development that pushed the initial asking price from about $327,000 to over half a million (today’s value).
To compound matters, the engineers swapped out the race-bred 6.2-litre V12 engine—advertised in the prototype—with a tamer 3.5-litre Biturbo V6. This enraged several potential customers, many of whom canceled their orders and threatened lawsuits. Then the global economic recession rolled in, and Jaguar found it increasingly hard to sell its halo supercar. Eventually, the XJ220 was killed off barely three years after its launch.
#2: Bugatti EB110

The Bugatti EB110 paved the way for the formidable Veyron and Chiron hypercars. However, its own story was steeped in misfortune. When it debuted in 1991, the EB110 was hailed as a technological marvel with a host of innovative features on board.
Unfortunately, the timing of its launch coincided with a recession that swept through Europe and North America. That made the EB110’s $350,000 look unseemingly, presenting an almost impossible barrier to ownership, impressive as the car was.
The carmaker was also going through a period of expansion at about the same time and had hoped that EB110 sales would fund the company’s ambitious growth strategy. Well, that did not happen, and only 139 units of the car were sold before Bugatti flopped over on its side and went bankrupt.
#3: Lamborghini Jalpa
There seems to be no stopping Lamborghini these days. The company is on a roll, recording unprecedented successes with models like the Urus, Huracan, and Aventador. However, the carmaker has had to endure a few bumps on its path to glory—one such hiccup was the Lamborghini Jalpa.
The almost forgotten sports car was designed as a more ‘affordable’ alternative to the Countach flagship. Unfortunately, the car was poorly received, and just over 400 were produced from 1982 to 1988 when Lamborghini, now under new ownership, pulled the plug.
#4: BMW M1

Born from the brand’s desire to enter competitive racing, the BMW M1 was the first car solely developed by the carmaker’s now famous M Division. It was designed expressly to allow BMW to compete in the FIA Group 4 sports car racing.
Unfortunately, the competition rules had changed by the time the M1 was ready. This effectively rendered the car impotent before it ever had a chance to showcase its impressive performance capabilities.
BMW attempted to keep the M1 relevant by creating a one-car racing series dubbed the BMW M1 Procar Championship, but that only lasted a couple of years before it was scrapped. Production lasted from 1978 to 1981 before BMW finally gave up on the car after about 450 cars had rolled off the assembly line.
#5: Ferrari Mondial 8

The Mondial 8 replaced the 308/208 GT4 coupe and was designed as a mid-engined V8 Grand Tourer with a 2+2 seating configuration. While great in theory, the idea did not turn out so well in the real world, and the poor Mondial 8 is a regular feature on the list of the worst Ferraris ever made. For one, the Mondial 8 was no lightweight at about 3,460 pounds. Then there was an underpowered V8 engine that generated only 214 hp.
The Mondial needed almost eight seconds to hit 62 mph. It was an unacceptable performance for a car that was neither cheap nor reliable. Thankfully, Ferrari quickly realized this and introduced an improved variant—the Mondial QV—just two years after the Mondial 8.
#6: Caparo T1

Imagine an F1 car reimagined for road use. That, and more, was what the Caparo T1 promised back when it was introduced in 2006. The single-seater supercar was powered by a naturally aspirated V8 that cranked out 575 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. A modest amount for a supercar, but then the T1 weighed only 1,036 lbs (470 kg).
That meant it had a better power-to-weight ratio than hypercars like the Bugatti Veyron and could rocket to 100 mph in less than five seconds. Unfortunately, the full potential of the T1 was never realized. Several safety incidents, including a suspension failure during the launch, threatened to derail the project.
Sales were also downright disappointing. According to reports, only 15 units of the T1 had been sold by 2012; against a planned run of 25 units per year. Then the company ran aground, hit by a wave of financial difficulties that put it on the verge of bankruptcy in 2015. By 2019, Caparo Vehicle Technologies was fully liquidated, taking any dream of resurrecting the T1 with it.
#7: Mitsuoka Orochi
The Orochi was a Japanese sports car built from 2006 to 2014. For good reason, it is often regarded as one of the ugliest cars ever made. It’s hard to point out any positives about the car. It weighed over 3,400 lbs and desperately needed more power than what was offered by the 233-hp V6 engine.
The Orochi needed almost 7 seconds to hit 60 mph, an abysmal figure for a supposedly high-performance car. No surprise then that it was also a commercial bomb. A few special edition models were unable to turn the tide in the car’s favor, and in 2014, Mitsuoka mercifully put an end to the Orochi.
#8: Vector W8

This American supercar was touted as the one that would finally take the fight to the established Italian heavyweights—Lamborghini and Ferrari. Pricewise, it certainly seemed capable of that with an eye-watering $450,000 price tag back in 1992. It wasn’t lacking in the power department either.
The W8 had a 6.0-litre Rodeck twin-turbocharged V8 that generated 625 hp at 5,700 rpm. The carmaker claimed the W8 could hit a 242 mph top speed, which would have made it the fastest production car at the time.
Unfortunately, the W8’s styling came in for a lot of criticism, and several reliability issues further complicated matters. In the end, less than 20 cars were sold before the W8 project folded and sank, with the company following soon after.
#9: DeLorean DMC-12

The DeLorean DMC-12, with those iconic gullwing doors, has to be one of the most recognizable sports cars ever. The car was made famous by its portrayal in the Back to the Future movie franchise with a cult following that’s still active.
Away from the movie screen, however, the DMC DeLorean had a widely contrasting fortune and fate. First off, the build quality was awful, with imperfect gap dimensions among the car’s many issues. It was also painfully slow, needing almost 10 seconds to hit 60 mph.
One can only wonder why the designers settled on a 132-hp engine to haul the car’s 2,866 lbs (1,300 kg) mass around. The DMC-12 was also expensive, and DeLorean had a hard time pushing sales. Eventually, a lack of cash flow, primarily due to the DMC-12’s poor market performance, drove the company to insolvency and eventual ruin.
#10: Lexus LFA

The Lexus LFA is an enigma, a supercar with one of the best-sounding engines ever fitted in a production car. Packed within its frame is a naturally aspirated 4.8-litre V10 that screams to a heady 9,000 rpm, churning out 553 hp and 354 lb-ft of torque in the process. However, the car’s performance and status came at a great cost to the carmaker.
The LFA supercar is regarded as a commercial failure. It was priced incredibly high, with a launch price of about $375,000, and even that was not enough to cover the massive R&D costs incurred by the carmaker. Lexus reportedly took a huge hit for every unit sold. The carmaker built only 500 units from 2010 to 2012, and it is telling that as recently as 2020, eight years after production officially ended, Lexus still had a few brand-new unsold LFAs sitting in dealer showrooms.

The BMW M760i is a front-engine, all-wheel-drive full-size luxury sedan. It is the newest release by BMW. Sad news for the market that was waiting for an M7, BMW never created any M7 and does not plan to create one in the future too. The M760i is only available as a long wheelbase sedan (not even a short wheelbase).
The first 7-series that were ever produced dated back to 1977. At that time, it was the successor to the BMW E3 “New Six” sedan. Since then, BMW always kept on upgrading the car and making it more luxurious.
The car was officially revealed last year. BMW Performance Center West hosted the International Media Launch of the first-ever BMW M760i xDrive. In countries where only the short wheelbase 7-series are available, the car is known as the M760Li there.
Design
The BMW M760i is built on the same structure and chassis as the other sixth-generation 7-series. The car looks very appealing to the eyes and at the same time, it does not have the fierce kind of look. This car is literally the gentleman’s car.
The car has active grille shutters, that is, the massive front grilles open up and close automatically depending on how you are driving the car. This feature is slowly becoming part of many vehicles nowadays. Not only does this allow you to control the airflow, reducing aerodynamic drag but also this brilliant technology helps to improve fuel efficiency.
Aluminium is one of the main composites of the BMW M760i. The hood, trunk, door panels, as well as other parts of the car, are made out of aluminium. The manufacturers have used a bit of carbon-fibre to reduce the weight of the heavy sedan. As a result, the M760i weighs 190 poundsless than a normal 7-series.
A completely luxurious car with rear reclining seats will usually have a silent exhaust, so as not to disturb the boss that is relaxing on the back seat while he is being driven around town. But not this time, the new BMW M760i has a new “mostly straight piping ending” exhaust system. Once, you put the car in sports mode, expect to hear some pretty decent noises.
The car sits on 20-inch wheels that are covered in Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires for ultimate grip around corners. For such a big sedan like that, these wheels might seem a bit small, but hear me out, these wheels are used here just so that comfort level is not decreased. You can have fun on the racetrack as well as relax comfortably in the back seats.
Just by the looks of the BMW M760i, we already know it is a very heavy sedan. But that does not stop it from going to the racetrack. Yes, you can take that car to the track. The car uses a responsive variable-ratio rack-and-pinion steering system up and front and a standard rear-steering system (optional on other 7-series).
Once you step into the car, you dive into a world of luxury, comfort and entertainment. The BMW M760i, being the top model, definitely makes you feel like you are someone that has achieved something. Everything inside is crafted so beautifully. There are leather, woods and even carbon-fibre if you want on the inside.
One feature of the car that cannot be left unnoticed is the backup camera. The backup, as well as the 360-degree camera, are completely unique and the image quality is very high. Personally, many other car enthusiasts will agree with me, BMW has got the best camera in the whole industry.
Another great feature is the automatic parking mode. That is, the car can move in and out of car parks so that you do not have to squeeze yourself inside. However, the car won’t make turns by itself, this feature works only in a straight line. The user controls the car by its remote or the BMW app.
Being a long wheelbase model only, the BMW M760i has self-reclining back seats to give you ultimate comfort. The usual seat cooler or heater and all the other bits are also present. Literally, it is a complete package car. A massive engine, luxury and comfortable rear seats and your own fridge where you can store drinks for long trips. You can also get the optional rear-entertainment system. What more you get when you spend that kind of money. Well, you get ambient lighting that can be customized according to your choice and you also get optional aromatherapy scents, so that you always smell good air inside your luxury BMW.
Here and there, you can notice some rather cheap plastics. After all, this is not a Rolls-Royce but a BMW, so it is acceptable. But when you are spending a huge amount of money, I don’t think you would like to touch cheap plastics. Also, a big complain that BMW always gets is that most of its car interior looks the same, be it an X5 or a 7-series.
Engine
Let’s talk about what is under the massive hood. The engineers needed to make sure to develop something that will not only set the road on fire but also that will preserve the comfort and smoothness of the car.
To be able to deliver eye-catching performance, the BMW M760i uses a 6.6L BMW M Performance Twin-Turbo V12 engine. This is a completely new engine, other 7-series cars do not have this. This setup makes 601 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. The car uses an 8-Speed Steptronic Sport Automatic transmission with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters.
The BMW M760i will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.4s and will hit 100 mph in 7.9s. The car will complete a standing quarter mile in a blistering 11.8s. These numbers look like there are for supercars but you are wrong. The 5-tonne BMW M760i is very capable on road and here is the proof.
The car will originally achieve a top speed of 155 mph (249 km/h). If that does not sound a lot or enough for you, then there is more. If you get your M760i with the optional M Driver’s package, the top speed jumps to 190 mph (306 km/h). Now tell me that is not enough!
Price
This has to be the cheapest V12 currently available on the market. The BMW M760i has a starting price of $156,495. With options, the price will go much more than $175,000. Still, this is a great bargain for a luxury V12. The best competitor, Mercedes S63 AMG has an MSRP of around $230,495 while the Mercedes S65 AMG goes way beyond that.
If you want to sit in the back seats and enjoy a good champagne while your driver does some laps around the track but hates expensive car, then the BMW M760i is the perfect car for you. The car has a combined fuel economy of 16 mpg.
Most of the people buying this car will most probably be sitting in the back seats. We don’t think that these very busy people will even find time to personally drive the car on a track or somewhere alike. So, we cannot really tell if the BMW M760i would be a huge success or not. Also, when you can get a brand new 7-series for less than starting price of the M760i. However, if you want one, you can order yours at any BMW showroom near you or you can reserve one online.

At this point, we’ve spent ten holiday seasons in our RV. We’ve figured out what works for us and what doesn’t, and generally how the holidays tend to unfold in our home-on-wheels. That’s not to say nothing ever goes wrong, but we definitely have a lot of the kinks worked out.
If you’re spending the holiday season in an RV for the first time this year, this is what you need to know.
Where You Are Matters
We spent one Christmas in a lonely corner of Florida without any friends or fun things to do nearby. It was unfortunately also cold and rainy, which added to the misery. This made me realize just how important it is to be in the right place during the holiday season.
Do Choose a Place with Things to Do
So what is the right place to spend the holidays? For me, this is someplace where there are things to do and/or people to spend time with. We’ve spent holidays in SoCal with friends, in Orlando near Disney World, and in Oklahoma with family. You have to decide what is important to you during the holiday season and make sure you are near those things wherever you set up camp.
Don’t Try to Move Too Near the Holiday
Wherever you decide to be, get there early enough to get settled in. I like to be where we are going to be for Christmas at least a week or two in advance. This gives us plenty of time to set up, decorate the RV, and get settled before the fun begins. We also like to stay a week or so after the holiday so we have some recovery time before we have to pack up and go.
It’s the Thought that Counts
The first year we lived in our RV, we did gift giving the same as always. I regretted this a lot. Our son received over 40(!) gifts from family and we simply did not have a place to put it all. The next year, I made a point of letting everyone know we had to do things differently, and it has changed how we do gift exchanges forever.
Do Give Thoughtful, Useful Gifts
The big change we made? We made a point of asking people to focus on giving one big gift rather than lots of smaller things. We also asked for 1) things we needed, 2) consumable gifts, and 3) experience gifts. This ensured we ended up with fewer gifts and only things we would actually use in our RV—both things that are extremely important when you live in a tiny space.
Don’t Forget About Hiding Things
Keep in mind you’ll have to hide everything you buy. This can be difficult in an RV. You’ll need to get creative by storing things in storage bays, in the car trunk, in rooftop cargo carriers, and in the backs of cabinets. You might even consider asking friends with houses to hold onto things for you if possible.
Account for Packages
Ordering packages while traveling can be tricky. This is especially frustrating during the holiday season when we end up ordering a lot of gifts online. Fortunately, we have always been able to figure it out and have never been without gifts for our kids.
Do Order Things Early
The first and most important tip? Order things as early as you reasonably can. This will give you time to fix problems that arise, such as a package not arriving on time.
Don’t Assume Campgrounds Will Receive Packages
It’s also important to figure out where you can receive packages. We have found that some campgrounds will accept packages for us, but many will not. Some others will for a fee. In any case, you’ll want to call ahead and find out for sure. If the campground won’t accept packages, you can choose to use an Amazon locker, have things delivered to the UPS store, or potentially have things sent to the post office.

Decorations Should be Well Thought Out
I adore Christmas decorations, and we always, always decorate our RV for the holidays. That said, I have to think about decorations very carefully when we live in such a small space.
Do Add Festive Fun to Your Rig
So yes, do find ways to decorate. I recommend things that hang on the walls inside the RV, such as a felt Christmas tree, garlands, and lights. You might also consider having an inflatable decoration outside on your campsite.
Don’t Go Overboard with Clutter
What you don’t want to do is go overboard. While we did make room for a full-sized tree in two of our RVs, it meant removing furniture and it wouldn’t work in most rigs. Don’t squish in a big tree if it doesn’t fit. I also recommend skipping the knick-knacks that are likely to get in the way and break during travel.
Likewise, if you plan to move the RV during the holiday season, you probably don’t want to put up a bunch of outdoor decorations that will have to be moved every time you travel.
Food Adds to the Fun
In my opinion, food is a very important part of any holiday. Because of this, I make sure to plan our Christmas menu well in advance.
Do Plan Special Christmas Meals
We always have a couple of special meals on Christmas.
Several years back, we started a little tradition of going to Waffle House on Christmas morning, because there is almost always one nearby and they are always open. Since we never go out for breakfast, it is special to the kids, even if it is just Waffle House.
For dinner, we tend to try to eat with friends. Sometimes we grill steaks together, sometimes we make a pot roast to share, and sometimes we eat potluck style. In all cases, I make sure we have some fun foods that we wouldn’t normally eat to make the meal extra special.
Don’t Feel Obligated to Make a Traditional Feast
What I don’t do? I don’t attempt to make an entire traditional holiday feast in our teeny tiny kitchen. It isn’t fun for me and just puts me in a bad mood on a day that should be fun. Yes, I make foods my family finds special, but I don’t kill myself to make a ridiculous amount of food or the “right” foods.
Connections Make the Holidays Bright
We have spent a couple of Christmases without family or friends. Not on purpose really, it just worked out that way. They were the saddest Christmases of my life. The holidays just aren’t the same without family or close friends.
Do Plan to Spend the Holidays with Family or Friends
As I said above, I highly recommend planning to be where your friends and/or family are for the holidays. Not only that, but I also recommend making sure they will be available to spend the holiday with you and making a plan for when you’ll be together and what you’ll be doing.
Don’t just assume. I’ve made that mistake before too. Can’t do Christmas Day together? Consider celebrating a different day.

Potlucks in the campground lodge or rec center
Making ornaments and gingerbread houses together
Holiday hikes
Caroling in the RV park
Hot cocoa and exchanging small, handmade gifts
Don’t Overschedule Yourself
If you’re in an area with lots of family and friends, you could potentially attend several celebrations. Be careful if this comes up. In my opinion, having too much to do on Christmas is just as bad as having nobody to see.

Holiday Adventures Make Memories
One of the best things about traveling for the holidays is that you can include interesting and exciting adventures in your celebrations. While we don’t usually go on an adventure on Christmas Day, I like to plan several adventures and outings during the season.
Do Plan Fun Holiday Outings
What kinds of adventures do we go on during Christmastime? All sorts! I like to try to tie in local holiday activities and events, especially if there’s something super unique happening in the area. We also make a point of attending campground holiday events.
Of course, seeing area hiking trails, parks, and attractions is also important and can be especially fun during the holidays.
Don’t Add Stress to the Season
What I have to avoid doing is making our holiday season too busy and stressful. While I love to see and do ALL THE THINGS, I have to remind myself that it is important to leave ourselves some downtime for simple things like hot cocoa and storytime, Christmas movies and cookie baking, and just laughing and being together.

The Ford Bronco New Energy is a midsized electrified crossover made by JMC-Ford specifically for China.
It will be available in both full EV and EREV (with a gas engine) variants.
The Bronco New Energy will start at $32,500 in China for a base model EREV model.
Ford is an odd duck these days. In the midst of making a huge show of canceling the F-150 Lightning and other future electric vehicles, it has released an electrified version of one of its most popular nameplates—but only in China.
The Bronco New Energy is meant to go head to head with some of the biggest sellers from BYD, Nio, Jetour and others vying for a surprisingly large amount of Chinese buyers who have discovered the love of nature and the cars that get them there.
Initial impressions of the China-only (so far) electrified Bronco are starting to roll in from Chinese media, and things are looking promising. The YouTube Channel Telescope got its hands on one, and its impressions are of a manufacturer that is finally trying to take China seriously.
For starters, you should know that the Bronco New Energy is available both as a conventional electric SUV and as an extended-range EV (EREV) with a gas generator that feeds the battery. The latter is already a popular powertrain in China and seems poised to take off elsewhere too. Ford says the next F-150 Lightning will be an EREV with 700 miles of range.
This Bronco is sort of a Ford-based product, but not quite. Made in China, much of its mechanical bits come from Ford’s Chinese joint venture partner, Jiangling Motors, or JMC. For a lot of markets outside of the U.S. and Europe, JMC produces some small crossover products with Ford badging and styling, but mostly JMC mechanicals. It is styled to look very similar to the full-fat Bronco and Bronco Sport available in the States, but it shares little with the Ford vehicles we get here.
Power comes either from a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and 43.7-kWh battery in the EREV version, or just a roughly 105-kWh battery in the full EV model. Whichever you choose, you’re getting electric motors turning both axles. For Telescope’s video, the channel had access to the EREV model.

Telescope, whose real name is Sean Zhou, is generally positive about the Bronco New Energy’s ergonomics and features, particularly its camper-style roof that can raise up. “I would buy this car just because of this roof option; it’s so interesting, and so Ford,” he said. Features like this facilitate the trend in China of buyers (specifically young people) camping their cars, albeit just for a weekend getaway.
Zhou’s time with the Bronco EREV did include some off-road bits. Zhou was a little less positive on that front, partially because his time started with the battery at a low state of charge. This meant the Bronco’s engine was constantly on, trying to keep the battery topped up and the vehicle moving. Thus, the Bronco EREV’s output is limited to however fast it can sustain the car’s demand for electric power. And a 150-horsepower engine just can’t give all that much power to the car’s 415-horsepower twin electric motor setup.
Zhou also felt let down by the Bronco EREV’s refinement when driving on regular roads. In EV mode the crossover is generally good, but in range extended mode, the noise, vibration and harshness is a lot more pronounced than other models.
“If you’ve been exposed to cars like the Li Auto range extended SUVs…I consider them world-class and unbeatable, but this [Bronco EREV] is a significant distance from that,” he said. Still, he remained positive. The Li Auto’s gas engine may be nearly imperceptible, but the Bronco EREV’s isn’t bad.

In all, Zhou thinks the Bronco is a good car—specifically for us Americans. He sees the Bronco EREV as a stepping stone for people who are caught up on the standard Bronco (and big trucks) but don’t like the fuel bills. This car could be that answer, especially since Ford is convinced that its clientele aren’t all that willing to go full electric.
That’s a nice thought, but I think that assumes that the Bronco EREV is coming here. Given the fact it’s a car mostly developed by Ford’s Chinese joint venture partner, it would be a pain to get compliant given new rules on Chinese-developed software and hardware. We know Ford wants to give us an EREV soon, but it likely won’t be this one.
On the flip side, the Bronco New Energy shows that Ford is actively trying something new in China. Rather than port over global EV models that aren’t resonating, like the Mustang Mach-E, it’s starting from scratch while keeping some of the hallmark things the brand is known for. From what I’ve gathered from Zhou’s video, this electrified Bronco seems like it has a fighting chance in China’s highly competitive market.
And, given all the tumult in its EV plans lately, that’s a good thing for Ford.
I first fell in love with the BMW brand nearly 20 years ago when I bought my first E46 M3, a 6MT Titanium Silver example with Imola Red interior. It was everything Id been looking for and then some. Since then, Ive owned a ton of different models, including a single turbo 2008 135i, a 2016 F10 M5, and a 2015 F80 M3 — all daily driven and documented on this forum. The last one I owned, the F80, was sold back in 2023 and Ive been without any sort of enthusiast vehicle for the last few years.
That was until a few weeks ago when I flew to Fort Lauderdale, Florida to pick up this 2024 BMW M3 with only 1,500 miles. I had been looking for a 6-speed, Black Sapphire exterior, Kyalami Orange carbon buckets combo and this one fit the bill perfectly. It even had some mods I found appealing: PPF over most of the vehicle, ER catless downpipes, a BMW Performance HAS kit, yellow DRLS, a gloss black lip kit all around, as well as replacing the puny stock rear brakes with an upgraded setup from dentprotony.
I decided to make the flight down to Florida and drive the 800 mile trip back home in a single day. I was most concerned about surviving a 12 hour trip in the carbon bucket seats, but I was pleasantly surprised at how great they felt for the entire ride. I am 510 and 160ish pounds and these seem custom tailored. Getting in and out comes with some challenges, but still not worth going with the standard seats.
Finally back in my driveway.
My son was born after I got rid of the F80, but it seems another enthusiast is in the making.
