Hyundai and Kia win big with South Korea’s new support for EVs

Hyundai and Kia win big with South Korea’s new support for EVs

Hyundai and Kia gained an edge over surging Chinese brands like BYD after South Korea raised subsidies and introduced additional policies to support EVs.

Hyundai and Kia win new EV support in Korea

South Korea, like many key global auto markets, is quickly being flooded with Chinese EVs, such as those from BYD. To help boost domestic sales, the government is introducing new subsidies and other policies.

The Ministry of Climate, Energy, and Environment announced its finalized 2026 EV subsidy plan on Thursday. Under the new plan, the maximum incentive for electric vehicles has been raised to 6.8 million won ($4,700), up from 5.8 million won ($4,000).

It includes a new incentive that offers EV buyers who scrap or sell their internal combustion engine car an additional 1 million won ($700). The offer is only good for new EVs, not used ones.

The price cap for the subsidies remains at 53 million won ($36,700), but in 2027, it will be reduced to 50 million won ($34,600).

According to the Korea JoongAng Daily, South Korea’s revised EV plan also includes stricter requirements for charging and energy density.

Since many Chinese brands, like BYD, use cheaper lithium iron phosphate (LFP) batteries, the changes give domestic automakers like Hyundai and Kia the upper hand, as they use nickel-manganese-cobalt (NCM) batteries.

Through November, the Tesla Model Y remained the best-selling EV in Korea, but BYD is quickly closing the gap. BYD sold just under 5,000 electric vehicles in Korea in the first 11 months, ranking third among imported EV brands.

Several new Chinese brands, such as XPeng, Li Auto, and Zeeker, are planning to launch in Korea this year. Meanwhile, Hyundai and Kia will introduce a pair of new entry-level EVs, the EV2 and IONIQ 3, which are expected to compete with Chinese brands in South Korea, Europe, and other overseas markets.

Under the new plan, commercial EVs, including Kia’s first electric van, the PV5, are eligible for subsidies. Small electric vans can receive up to 15 million won, midsize EVs up to 40 million won, and large EV trucks up to 60 million won.

The finalized plan comes after the South Korean government pledged in November to increase support for EVs, following the new US auto tariffs and other policy changes.

The US is missing out on the entry-level EVs, but Hyundai and Kia are softening the blow with aggressive discounts. Hyundai IONIQ 5 leases now start at just $189 per month. Kia, on the other hand, is slashing prices by over $10,000 across its entire lineup.

The Definitive Guide to Selecting Your BMW in the Washington DC Metro Area

The Definitive Guide to Selecting Your BMW in the Washington DC Metro Area

The Definitive Guide to Selecting Your BMW in the Washington DC Metro Area

Author: Passport BMW

Choosing a new vehicle is a significant decision, and when that vehicle is a BMW, it signifies an investment in world-class engineering, sophisticated design, and an unparalleled driving experience. Passport BMW has a long-standing history of serving discerning drivers throughout Suitland-Silver Hill, MD, and the greater Washington DC region, providing an in-depth understanding of why a BMW is the superior choice for this area. Leveraging decades of experience detailed on our commitment page, this guide offers the insights needed to select a vehicle with precision and confidence, whether your journey takes you along the Capital Beltway, through the historic streets of Alexandria, or to a weekend escape from Arlington.

Key Takeaways (TL; DR)

  • Tailor Your Test Drive: Experience your prospective BMW on the diverse roadways you frequent, from the stop-and-go traffic on the George Washington Memorial Parkway to the open stretches of US-50, to truly appreciate its dynamics.
  • New vs. BMW Certified Value: A new 2025 BMW provides access to the latest iDrive interface and driver assistance innovations, while a BMW Certified vehicle delivers exceptional value backed by a rigorous inspection and comprehensive manufacturer warranty.
  • xDrive for Regional Weather: To master the DC area’s unpredictable weather, from sudden summer downpours to icy winter commutes, consider a model equipped with BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel drive system for superior traction and stability.
  • Strategic Financing: Securing pre-approval for an auto loan from a reputable financial institution before visiting our Suitland-Silver Hill center can place you in a commanding position during your acquisition process.
  • Align Model with Lifestyle: Honestly evaluate your daily travel, passenger needs, and cargo requirements to select the ideal BMW, whether it’s an agile 3 Series for city living or a commanding X5 for family excursions to the Chesapeake Bay.
  • Budget for Total Cost of Ownership: Your financial considerations should extend beyond the initial payment to encompass insurance, fuel consumption, and local vehicle registration fees in Maryland or Virginia to ensure a seamless ownership experience.

What Key Factors Should Inform Your BMW Acquisition in the DC Region?

Before exploring the refined atmosphere of our showroom in Suitland-Silver Hill, the most critical step is a thoughtful reflection on your personal aspirations, the realities of your daily drive in the DC metro area, and your financial strategy. Addressing these elements first will refine your focus to the BMW models that truly complement your lifestyle. This methodical approach streamlines the selection process and ensures you acquire a vehicle that will bring you profound satisfaction for years to come.

To formulate a comprehensive budget, one must look beyond the vehicle’s purchase price. The true cost of owning a luxury automobile encompasses several vital components.

  • Initial Investment: How much capital can you comfortably allocate for a down payment? A more substantial down payment, ideally 20% of the vehicle’s value, can result in lower monthly installments, reduce the total interest paid over the loan’s duration, and accelerate equity building.
  • Monthly Payments: What monthly payment aligns with your broader financial portfolio? You can leverage online financial calculators to project payments based on various loan terms and interest rates, ensuring ample flexibility for other important expenditures.
  • Insurance Premiums: The cost of insurance can vary notably between different BMW models. It is prudent to obtain quotes from your insurance carrier for the specific models you are considering, such as a 5 Series versus an X3, to fully understand the impact on your monthly budget.
  • Fuel and Energy Costs: Contemplate your typical weekly mileage. A fuel-efficient option like the 2025 BMW X5 xDrive50e plug-in hybrid, with its impressive electric range, could yield considerable savings, especially for those with daily commutes from Upper Marlboro to downtown DC.

After establishing your budget, ask yourself some pragmatic questions about how you envision using your new BMW.

  • How many passengers will you typically accommodate? If you are primarily a solo commuter navigating the Beltway, a sophisticated 4 Series Gran Coupé or a dynamic 3 Series sedan could be the perfect counterpart. Conversely, if your responsibilities include transporting family or colleagues, a spacious X7 or X5 with available third-row seating is a more fitting choice.
  • What type of cargo will you be transporting? Consider your usual needs. An X1’s versatile cargo area can easily manage weekly trips to the market, while an X3 offers ample space for luggage for a weekend retreat to Virginia’s wine country. For larger items, the generous capacity of an X5 or X7 is unparalleled.
  • Where will your driving primarily occur? Your main driving environment is a crucial determinant. Maneuvering through the dense traffic of Arlington or finding parking in Alexandria demands different attributes than cruising on I-66 or handling the icy patches that can form after a winter storm. An available xDrive all-wheel-drive system is a significant asset for traction and performance.

They provide a significant all-electric range for emissions-free daily commuting, with the flexibility of a gasoline engine for longer trips. You can find more details on current models at the official BMW USA website.

Should You Acquire a New or BMW Certified Pre-Owned Vehicle?

This decision hinges on what you prioritize: access to the very latest technology and personalization, or the compelling value of a meticulously inspected vehicle. Both new and BMW Certified vehicles represent excellent acquisitions.

What Are the Merits of Acquiring a New BMW?

Purchasing a brand-new 2025 BMW comes with a distinct collection of advantages that many discerning buyers in the DC area find compelling.

  • Comprehensive Warranty: A new BMW includes a 4-year/50,000-mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty, providing complete assurance.
  • Ultimate Care: Every new BMW comes with BMW Ultimate Care, which covers scheduled maintenance for the first 3 years or 36,000 miles.
  • Latest Technology and Design: You receive the most advanced features, such as the latest BMW iDrive operating system, sophisticated driver-assistance suites, and the newest design language.
  • Pristine Condition: There is a unique gratification in being the inaugural owner of a vehicle, with no prior history or wear to consider.
  • Strong Resale Value: BMW vehicles are known for maintaining their value well, which helps protect your investment. Resources like Kelley Blue Book can provide valuable data on vehicle valuation.
  • Complete Personalization: You have the opportunity to specify the exact color, upholstery, trim, and factory-installed packages you desire, creating a vehicle that is a true reflection of your personal taste.

Why Should You Consider a BMW Certified Vehicle?

A BMW Certified Pre-Owned vehicle offers an intelligent alternative that merges exceptional value with the proven performance and reliability of The Ultimate Driving Machine®.

  • Significant Value: BMW Certified vehicles have already undergone their most significant period of depreciation, allowing you to acquire a recent-model vehicle for a more accessible price point.
  • Rigorous Certification Process: To earn the “Certified” designation, a pre-owned BMW must have more than 300 miles but less than 60,000 miles. It must then pass an exhaustive 360° vehicle inspection by a BMW-trained technician.
  • Extended Warranty Protection: Every BMW Certified vehicle is backed by the BMW Certified Pre-Owned Limited Warranty, which provides comprehensive coverage for one year with unlimited miles after the expiration of the 4-year/50,000-mile New Vehicle Warranty.
  • Favorable Insurance Rates: BMW Certified vehicles often qualify for lower insurance premiums compared to their brand-new equivalents, offering ongoing savings.
  • Vehicle History Report: Every Certified vehicle is accompanied by a complimentary CARFAX™ or AutoCheck® report, giving you complete transparency into its service history and ownership background.

How Can You Secure the Best Terms for Your BMW in the DC Area?

Achieving favorable terms on your next BMW involves strategic timing, thorough research, and a comparison of offers from various sources.

  • Optimal Shopping Times: The end of the month, quarter (March, June, September, December), and year-end sales events are often opportune times. Dealerships are highly motivated to meet sales objectives, which can lead to more attractive offers.
  • Compare Regional Inventory: Review the websites of authorized BMW centers in the greater DC area to compare available inventory and advertised specials. Obtaining written price proposals can provide you with a stronger negotiating position.
  • Research Market Valuations: Use tools like the Edmunds True Market Value (TMV)® to understand what other buyers in your local market have recently paid for the exact same model and trim. This data empowers you to negotiate from a position of knowledge.
  • Evaluate Special Offers: BMW Financial Services frequently provides special financing rates or compelling lease programs on new models. BMW Certified vehicles may also feature promotional interest rates. Always consult the official BMW Financial Services site and our Passport BMW specials page for current offers.
  • Read Expert Reviews: Authoritative and owner reviews on platforms like Consumer Reports can offer deep insights into a model’s long-term performance and value, helping you validate your selection.

How Should You Prepare for BMW Financing?

BMW Financing

Arranging your financing before you finalize your vehicle selection can save you a considerable amount of money and reduce complexity at the dealership.

  • Review Your Credit Profile: Knowing your credit score before applying for financing is essential. A higher score generally qualifies you for more favorable interest rates. You are entitled to a free annual report from the major credit bureaus.
  • Secure Pre-Approval: Apply for an auto loan with your preferred bank or credit union before you begin shopping in earnest. A pre-approval letter not only defines your budget but also acts as a potent negotiating instrument at the dealership.
  • Establish Your Down Payment: A significant down payment of at least 20% is strongly advised. It reduces your loan-to-value ratio, which can help you secure better financing terms and lower your monthly installment.
  • Assemble Necessary Documents: When you are prepared to complete your purchase, you will require a valid driver’s license, proof of income (such as recent pay stubs), and proof of residence (like a utility bill). Having these documents ready will streamline the process.
  • Compare All Financing Offers: Do not automatically accept the first financing offer presented. Use your pre-approval letter to ask our finance manager if they can provide a more competitive rate. Even a fractional difference in the interest rate can result in substantial savings over the life of the loan.

What Should You Focus on During a BMW Test Drive?

The test drive is your most valuable opportunity to ascertain if a vehicle truly aligns with your expectations and driving style. Go beyond a brief trip around the block and replicate your real-world driving conditions in the DC metro area.

  • Vary Your Driving Environments: Drive the vehicle on the roads you travel every day. If your commute involves the Capital Beltway, assess how it handles both dense traffic and higher speeds. Take it through a neighborhood with varied road quality to test its suspension compliance and agility.
  • Evaluate Comfort and Ergonomics: Thoroughly adjust the driver’s seat, steering wheel, and mirrors. Can you achieve a comfortable and commanding driving position? Assess the visibility from all angles—are there any obtrusive blind spots? Listen for wind and road noise at highway speeds.
  • Test All the Systems: Be thorough in your exploration of the technology. Connect your smartphone to the iDrive system via Bluetooth or wireless Apple CarPlay®. Test the climate controls, use the Intelligent Personal Assistant with voice commands, and ask your Client Advisor to demonstrate advanced driver-assist features.
  • Simulate Your Daily Life: If you have children, bring your child safety seats and practice installing them. Is it an intuitive process? If you are a golfer, ensure your clubs fit comfortably in the trunk. This practical evaluation ensures the vehicle’s space and functionality work for your specific needs.
  • Research Before You Arrive: Peruse professional reviews from publications like MotorTrend and owner forums. They often highlight specific strengths or weaknesses to look for, such as a particularly responsive transmission or an intuitive infotainment menu, providing you with a valuable checklist for your drive.

2018 McLaren 570S Spider | Full Specifications, Price, Release Date

2018 McLaren 570S Spider | Full Specifications, Price, Release Date

McLaren 570S Spider review

Overview

The McLaren 570S Spider is a sports car designed and built by McLaren Automotive. The original McLaren 570S was unveiled at the 2015 New York International Motor Show. The mid-engined, rear-wheel-drive and two-passengers car was later revealed at the 2017 Goodwood Festival of Speed event as the McLaren 570S Spider, literally the convertible version of the 570S.

Unlike other convertibles, the 570S Spider has the same performance and power as the coupe version and you get to enjoy the open-air driving alongside. There are few supercars on the market that gives you complete satisfaction at a very reasonable price and the 570S Spider is among them. The lower-priced Sports Series line of McLaren which consists of the original 570S and the rather more practical 570GT has a new addition and it is the 570S Spider.

With the 570S Spider, McLaren Automotive believes that their sales volume could be triple by 2020. The car is a complete package: luxury, performance, power, convertible and relatively cheaper than other supercars. These aspects of the McLaren 570S Spider could skyrocket the company’s sales during the upcoming years. This car, though recently released, has already marked itself on the list of many supercar lovers.

McLaren 570S Spider Specs

Designs

Exterior

As many people say that all McLarens look mostly the same, well, I cannot completely disagree with that. But, one thing is for sure, every curve, every little detail on a McLaren has its feature and use. The 570S Spider is another great example, its looks being completely similar to the original 570S but it follows the McLaren’s philosophy of ‘Everything for a reason’.

A McLaren technology, usually used in its Formula 1 cars and now is being used in the Sports Series is the carbon fibre construction. This aspect makes the 570S Spider very rigid and gives it a lot of strength. This amazing technology sadly is not available on many other convertibles. Also, a great advantage of the carbon fibre construction is the fact that the car requires no additional stiffening of the chassis and it maintains its extreme performance, dynamic excellence and impressive perfection that is needed from being a McLaren.

Is McLaren 570S Spider better than McLaren 650S Spider

One thing that is completely new on the new 570S Spider except the folding hardtop is the new set of alloy wheels. The forged aluminium alloy wheels have been completely redesigned for the Spider. The new wheels are not only lightweight but they are also super strong. Wrapped around them are high-grip Pirelli P-Zero Corsa tyres. This powerful duo makes the car go around corners even faster. This combination brings a huge improvement in traction as well as braking.

The McLaren 570S Spider uses an advanced roof folding mechanism. The two-piece aluminium hardtop folds itself completely into a compartment behind the seats at a press of a button. The whole process takes only 15 seconds to finish and the top can retract itself even at speeds above 30 mph (48 km/h). Unlike the 12C Spider and the 650S Spider, the 570S Spider does not need additional re-engineering for the folding roof mechanism, thanks to the carbon monocell used. As a result, the McLaren 570S Spider is only 46 kg (101 lbs) heavier than the coupe. I am personally not a fan of the soft top. I believe every car manufacturer, especially supercar manufacturer, should dump the soft top idea. Well, I guess many of you will agree with me that a soft car on a supercar looks ugly (sorry for those loving the soft top). A hardtop convertible, not only looks much more beautiful but is actually more reliable and more secure.

Is McLaren 570S Spider better than McLaren 650S Spider

A signature design on every McLaren is the dihedral doors. While this design makes the car looks much more beautiful and expensive, this design also makes getting in and out of the car easier and makes it much easier to get in and out in tight spaces. This beautiful design also directs air into the side intakes to the radiators.

This one might surprise some of you out there. But hey, believe it or not, the McLaren 570S Spider is quite practical. Despite the fact that the car has an advanced roof folding mechanism, there are 52 litres of storage space at the back when the roof is up. And there is more as it is a mid-engined supercar. There are another 150 litres of cargo space at the front. This simply makes the 570S Spider a great choice for a weekend getaway.

Interior

Now coming to the interior of the McLaren 570S Spider, one thing that everyone will notice, is the fact that it is like most of the other McLaren cars’ interior. The interior is rather simple, very neat and it has all the controls and buttons where you would want them to be. In fact, all of the controls inside the car is positioned for easy use and to reduce distraction while driving. Once again, let me remind you that McLaren follows its design philosophy very well, ‘Everything for a reason’.

The seven-inch advanced touchscreen display lets you control almost everything, from climate control to satellite navigation to (optional) rear-view camera. You can get an upgrade from a standard four-speaker audio system to a Bowers and Wilkins twelve-speaker. This upgrade delivers crystal clear music through the entire cabin.

The seats are finished in the finest hand-stitched leather that maybe your hands have ever touched. The seats are also positioned in the most convenient way and for a sports car, the seats are very comfortable, especially for a long journey. Expect to see a lot of Alcantara and carbon fibre on the dashboard and centre console.

Engine

Let talk engine now, shall we? One of the main reasons someone gets a supercar is because of its engine and performance. Well, the McLaren 570S Spider is packed with a 3.8L twin-turbocharged V8. This might be true to an extent that in every McLaren, there is a V8. But what is not true is the fact that all the V8 are the same. With each model, McLaren reworks on the engine, giving it just the perfect amount of power.

This powerful engine makes 562 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. While these figures might not look that extraordinary but keep in mind that the McLaren 570S Spider weighs only 1498 kg (3303 lbs). The car will accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 3.0s flat and it will reach 100 mph in 6.2s. The 570S Spider will do a standing quarter mile in just 10.8s.  It has a top speed of 204 mph (328 km/h). These figures confirm that the 570S Spider is worth to be on the supercars list.

The McLaren 570S Spider is equipped with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic with manual shifting mode transmission. The shifting is instant and it responds as soon as you flip the paddle. The handling, as in all McLaren, is always complimentary. The steering wheel does the job as you would expect it. There is no vagueness whatsoever. It is precise and it always makes you feel connected to the car and to the road. The steering wheel is neither light nor heavy.

McLaren 570S Spider 0-60 mph

Price

McLaren said that the first 400 units will be ‘launch edition models’ and they will be priced at $208,000. Let’s compare this price to other McLaren models. The McLaren 650S Spider is $120,000 more than this and the McLaren 675LT Spider is almost $200,000 more. In other words, the McLaren 570S Spider is so attainable.

Delivery of the car started at the end of 2017 and most probably, the first 400 units are already sold out. So, if now you are thinking about getting one, the McLaren 570S Spider starts at $191,400, which is a great bargain for a McLaren.

McLaren 570S Spider Price

Well, at this time, the McLaren 570S Spider is a great supercar, packed with a lot of luxury and performance and priced rather reasonably. Let’s wait for some years to see what will these be worth. Let’s see if depreciation will play its dirty game with the 570S Spider just like the 650S.

How To Fix RV Toilet Issues

How To Fix RV Toilet Issues

MANY OF US will eventually need to fix our RV toilet. Maybe it’s just a bit wobbly, or the bowl no longer holds water—or you may face a significant leak or clog. Whether you need to repair an RV toilet leak, replace a worn seal, unclog a stubborn line, or fix a broken foot pedal, this guide will help you safely and confidently fix an RV toilet.

Key Takeaways

  • Common RV toilet problems include water not holding, clogs, leaks, wobbling, odors, and foot pedal failures. Find step-by-step fixes for each below.
  • Learn when to replace seals, tighten bolts, lubricate components, or perform deeper repairs, plus brand-specific notes for Dometic and Thetford models.
  • Use good prevention to avoid future issues: never leave the black tank valve open, and always add water and tank treatment after dumping.

Common Problems With RV Toilets + How To Fix Them

Let’s break down the most common RV toilet problems—and how to fix each one.

RV Toilet Won’t Hold Water (Bad Seal or Ball Valve)

When the bowl won’t retain water, the most common failure point is the flush ball seal. Over time, those rubber seals dry out, crack, or accumulate debris, preventing a full and watertight seal. You’ll usually notice the bowl slowly draining after filling, with the water level refusing to stay above the ball valve, a faint hiss or bubbling around the seal, or a foot pedal that doesn’t allow the ball to fully close—classic signs that the seal is worn or dirty.

How To Fix an RV Toilet Seal

Follow these steps to remedy the issue:

  1. Turn off the water supply to the toilet.
  2. Press the foot pedal to open the ball valve.
  3. Clean the seal with a soft brush and mild cleaner to remove buildup.
  4. Apply a toilet seal lubricant and conditioner to re-lubricate the seal.
  5. If the leak persists, replace the seal entirely.

Use these guides to replace a flush ball seal in these common RV toilet brands:

If flushing feels crunchy, sticky, or doesn’t activate water flow, the foot pedal linkage may be damaged or disconnected.

Follow these steps to remedy the issue:

  1. Shut off the water to the toilet.
  2. Remove the shroud around the toilet base (usually a few screws).
  3. Inspect for broken springs, rods, or plastic connectors.
  4. Lubricate hinges and moving parts.
  5. Replace broken parts or swap the entire pedal assembly if necessary.

Technician Tip: You may need to contact the toilet manufacturer directly for replacement parts.

RV Toilet Won’t Flush or Seems Clogged

Toilets clog more easily in RVs due to narrower plumbing and holding tank design—especially if you don’t use RV-safe toilet paper or don’t flush with enough water. Common signs include slow or weak flushing, water rising higher in the bowl than normal, or a partial flush that leaves waste behind.

How To Fix a Clogged RV Toilet

Here are some methods to unclog an RV toilet:

  • Open the ball valve and pour 5-10 gallons of hot (not boiling) water—mixed with a quart of tank chemical to dissolve built-up solids—down the toilet. Let it sit 8–12 hours.
  • Add ice + water, drive around, and let the movement break the debris loose.
  • Treat the tank with the same RV-safe tank treatments you normally use.
  • Use your built-in black tank flush or a flexible tank wand if needed.

Read our complete guide on How To Unclog RV Black Tanks.

RV Toilet Leaks at the Base or Underneath

A leaky RV toilet often points to a failed flange seal, loose mounting bolts, or cracks in the base. Some leaks are more noticeable than others, ranging from occasional drips around the base to steady moisture pooling on the floor or a persistent musty smell that shows water is escaping somewhere it shouldn’t.

How To Fix a Leaking RV Toilet

Follow these steps to remedy the issue:

  1. Shut off the water and drain the bowl.
  2. Disconnect the water line from the back of the toilet.
  3. Loosen mounting bolts at the base—carefully to avoid cracking.
  4. Remove the toilet base.
  5. Inspect the flange seal for flattening or cracks.
  6. Replace the seal if water continues escaping. Ensure you use a compatible replacement seal for your toilet model.
  7. Check the water line fittings for drips.

Consult our RV toilet flange seal replacement guide for further assistance.

Toilet Wobbles or Shifts While Sitting on It

A rocking RV toilet almost always means the floor flange bolts are loose or the base gasket is worn out.

Follow these steps to remedy the issue:

  1. Turn off the water and disconnect the supply line.
  2. Loosen the toilet base and lift the toilet to expose the floor flange.
  3. Remove bolt caps and tighten hardware evenly until snug. Avoid overtightening, as it can crack the floor flange.
  4. Test for wobbling. If fixed, re-anchor the toilet and reconnect the water.
  5. Remove the toilet and replace the foam or rubber base gasket if rocking persists.

Sewer Smell Coming From the Toilet

If you notice foul odors, you may need to improve seal lubrication, clean the valve, or perform a deep treatment of your black tank.

RV Toilet Smell Fix

Here are some methods to fix a smelly RV toilet:

  • Lubricate the bowl seal with RV-safe seal conditioner.
  • Use RV-safe toilet paper only.
  • Treat the black water tank with your go-to holding tank chemicals.
  • Check roof siphon vents for blockages.
  • Check the toilet’s vacuum breaker for tank fume leakage, if so equipped.

Learn more about how RV plumbing works.

Brand-Specific Fixes for Dometic & Thetford Toilets

Dometic and Thetford are two of the most common manufacturers of RV toilets. Luckily, fixing a Thetford or Dometic RV toilet typically follows the same steps outlined above. These toilets share similar mechanics, so sealing, flushing, pedal, and valve fixes apply to both. Just confirm your model number before buying replacement toilet parts.

Technician Tip: The model number can typically be found on the base of the toilet. There are several numbers on the tag, and all are important to ensure you receive the exact parts for your model. Therefore, take a clear picture of the tag for your parts representative.

When to Call a Professional

If you’re confident, fixing an RV toilet can be a straightforward process. But if water damage, odor issues, or deep clogs push past your comfort level, don’t risk it. Sewer repairs can get smelly and messy fast.

If you’d rather not spend your afternoon elbow-deep in your black tank, let the pros handle it. Schedule service at your local Camping World for leak repairs, seal replacements, clog removal, and full toilet rebuild or replacement. Quick, clean, and done right—no mess, no smell, no stress.

How To Prevent (Most) RV Toilet Fixes

Luckily, there are two habits you can pick up that will help you avoid most of these toilet issues:

1. NEVER camp with the black tank valve open so it constantly drains through the hose and into the dump station. If you do this, the water runs away immediately, but the solids stay behind and build up quickly. Additionally, since an RV toilet lacks a water trap, odors from the dump station and built-up solids in the tank can escape through the toilet into the RV and out through the rooftop vent, contaminating the campground with unpleasant smells.

2. ALWAYS add 2-5 gallons of water through the toilet and into the black tank before camping and after dumping the tank—along with your favorite tank chemical—so the bottom of the tank has a skim coat of water and chemical covering it. This locks in residual tank odors, and toilet waste lands in the water/chemical solution from the very first flush instead of hitting and adhering to the bare, dry plastic tank.

Use these additional resources to repair or replace various RV components:

Charged EVs | EVE Energy partners with Green Whale to accelerate marine battery adoption

Chinese battery supplier EVE Energy and Green Whale Technology (GWT) have signed a strategic partnership agreement to provide marine battery energy storage systems (BESS) and service to customers worldwide.

The collaboration combines EVE Energy’s lithium marine battery system technology and GWT’s marine engineering, lifecycle service and commissioning expertise. The strategic agreement is structured as a back-to-back partnership to ensure EVE Energy provides comprehensive support, the companies said.

EVE Energy and GWT are actively expanding their presence in the tanker, container, public transport, heavy lift, port, offshore, aquaculture, short sea shipping and yachting markets. They are currently developing a new battery product based on two new types of battery cells, which is expected to come into the market in 2026.

The companies have already delivered a BV-class marine battery container in Asia.

While the high C-rate maritime battery market has been dominated by nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) cell-based systems, EVE supplies LFP marine batteries, which can offer a longer lifetime than NMC-based systems in many application scenarios. EVE’s active balancing technology enables the systems to deliver a lifetime of up to 15 years, reducing total cost of ownership.

To support customers globally, Green Whale Technology is establishing a Netherlands-based cloud service platform for local data compliance, digital security and mitigating geopolitical risks. Spare parts storage in Norway and the Netherlands will allow it to provide timely after-sales support in Europe.

EVE Energy’s BESS factory has the capacity to produce over 10 MWh per day to ensure scalability and timely delivery. The marine battery system is priced below $300 per kWh.

“By collaborating on all the key elements in BESS development, manufacturing, delivery and service, we aim to ensure that customers receive the best available battery technology, backed by global support throughout the product lifecycle of our systems. We are very proud that we can now extend the system’s lifetime to 15 years with an experienced local service provider, GWT, and look forward to seeing them deployed in the maritime markets,” Yong Cong Xiong, EVE Energy’s Head of Marine & Port.

We ran out of water while camping… 😬 🙊

This post may contain affiliate links. See our affiliate disclaimer here.

If you’ve ever RVed before, you know that there is an extra set of logistics to handle as you travel. You need to monitor you batteries and your water and your tanks.

As seasoned RVers, we’re used to this.

Ellie, however, isn’t.

So when we found a beautiful remote campsite on a long stretch of quiet beach, we were excited to spend a relaxing night enjoying the outdoors…until we realized someone had left the sink running and drained our water tank.

With no water bottles and no water hookups nearby, we were in a tough spot.

Watch the video:

Thank you to the nearby motorhome who loaned us some water bottles!

Kaikoura

Meanwhile, we remembered why we love the South Island of New Zealand. There is endless beauty, delicious wineries, and more wild camping than anyone could ever experience!

After leaving our beautiful campsite and finding water, we headed to the town of Kaikoura. Kaikoura is known for its marine wildlife, including an absurd number of seals! After finding a pod of whales, we hiked up the coast in search of seals.

Watch the video to see all of the beauty unfold 🦭 🐋

Norris win leads a vintage season of surprises in global motorsport

0
Norris win leads a vintage season of surprises in global motorsport

So, then: 2025 proved to be a year of high drama and unexpected triumphs across the world of motorsport – arguably the most exciting season in years.

In Formula 1, Lando Norris overcame fierce competition from teammate Oscar Piastri and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen to claim Britain’s 11th F1 crown, ending McLaren’s title drought since 2008. Elsewhere, Sébastien Ogier staged a remarkable rally comeback, Oliver Rowland dominated Formula E, and Álex Palou secured both the IndyCar title and the iconic Indianapolis 500.

From endurance racing victories at Le Mans to intense battles in the BTCC, the season showcased resilience, skill, and the emergence of new champions challenging established stars at every turn.

Formula 1

Two points: that’s how close Max Verstappen came to equalling Michael Schumacher’s feat of winning five consecutive Formula 1 world championships, despite having fallen more than 100 points behind in the summer.

Instead, 26-year-old Lando Norris did just enough to become Britain’s 11th F1 king and McLaren’s first since Lewis Hamilton in 2008.

A tactical and cool-headed third place in the Abu Dhabi finale sealed the deal as Red Bull’s man charged to his eighth win of the season – one more than both Norris and his team-mate Oscar Piastri – and third in as many weeks.

In the MCL39, Norris had the fastest F1 car of the season, as highlighted by how comfortably McLaren cantered to a second consecutive constructors’ crown. But still there was nothing easy about this title triumph. Norris faced not only one of the greatest drivers in history in Verstappen but also a steely internal threat from Piastri, who was by far the better driver through the first half of the season.

As Norris reflected in the wake of securing his crown, he had been forced to overcome doubts in his self-belief in those opening months of the campaign. But having driven into his team-mate in Canada and then endured a devastating mechanical retirement in the Netherlands, he showed his mental resilience to work his way back into the hunt. Norris made up the 34-point deficit that had opened up to Piastri, who conversely endured a poor run of results through the autumn. Victory in Mexico edged him back ahead in the points, and from there he never looked back. Well, not at Piastri, at any rate.

Verstappen’s rallying charge in the second half of the year entirely transformed the season’s complexion. Winning titles in the best car is all very well, but we see the best from true greats in moments of adversity, and so it was in this case. Mid-season, speculation swirled that he might leave for Mercedes-AMG in 2026 amid continuing acrimony at Red Bull. The departure of team principal Christian Horner just after the British GP, with Racing Bulls’ Laurent Mekies transferring to the senior squad, settled the storm as Milton Keynes’ engineers got a handle on the Honda-powered RB21 – and Verstappen did the rest. His six wins from the last nine GPs injected fresh energy into the season’s run-in.

Behind the title battle, the biggest disappointment had to be Lewis Hamilton’s struggles at Ferrari. An early sprint race pole and win in China proved a red herring as the seven-time champion toiled in frustration. It was sad to see him reduced to an F1 also-ran.

World Rally Championship

Two wins from the first three rallies of the campaign? That’s a world champion’s form. Sadly, Elfyn Evans never won again after tasting champagne in Rally Sweden in February and Kenya in March, and his once handsome points lead dwindled through the summer.

Part-time Toyota Gazoo team-mate Sébastien Ogier had won his 10th Monte Carlo Rally at the season opener but then as planned missed both Sweden and Kenya. So Evans had a buffer of 55 points over Ogier after the Safari Rally, and with the eight-time champion insistent that family time came before chasing a record-equalling ninth title, most would have pointed at Kalle Rovanperä as the Welshman’s biggest threat.

Instead, 41-year-old Ogier once again showed why he’s revered as one of the all-time greats. In total he won six times and eventually committed to chasing the crown, which he secured on the inaugural Saudi Arabian season finale with a fighting third place. Evans had still led the standings coming in but ended up four points adrift. The bridesmaid for a fifth time. Ouch.

As for Rovanperä, he won three rallies but seemed distracted. Indeed, the Finn shocked the WRC by announcing he’s quitting to take a crack at becoming a single-seater racer, starting in Japan’s Super Formula series. A huge loss.

World Endurance Championship

Ferrari completed a hat-trick of Le Mans 24 Hours victories and secured its first world titles at this level since 1972 – so at least in sports cars (and in stark contrast to F1), job done.

Yet after a four-race unbeaten streak, including at the biggest of the year in June, its trio of 499Ps never won again in the second half of the season. Was that down to the competitive level in the Hypercar class, which featured eight major motor manufacturers, or a consequence of tweaks in the Balance of Performance, the means by which cars of differing specification are equalised? You never quite know in the WEC.

Britain’s James Calado, driving as always with Italians Alessandro Pier Guidi and Antonio Giovinazzi, claimed a world championship to go with his 2023 Le Mans win. But at the 24 Hours, Robert Kubica stole the limelight to complete a remarkable redemption story 14 years after he nearly lost his right arm in a terrible rally accident. The Pole shared his victory with young Briton Phil Hanson and China’s first Le Mans winner, Yifei Ye, in the yellow AF Corse 499P – which is officially a customer entry, even if it’s run out of the same team that’s responsible for the factory cars.

Cadillac, Porsche, Alpine and Toyota also scored WEC race wins in 2025, while the new V12-powered Aston Martin Valkyrie was a podium threat by season’s end.

British Touring Car Championship

The two best drivers in the UK’s top motor racing series went head to head across another frenetic season of the British Touring Car Championship.

Ash Sutton in Alliance Racing’s Ford Focus ST did all he could to claim a record fifth title, but in reality he was always straining to keep Tom Ingram’s Excelr8 Hyundai i30 N Fastback within range. Ingram fully deserved a second crown to add to his first from 2022 and wrapped up the title with a round to spare via a convincing race-two victory at Brands Hatch.

Comparisons across eras are a folly in most sporting arenas, but most BTCC insiders agree that Ingram and Sutton rank alongside the country’s best tin-top aces from any decade – including the star-studded Super Touring 1990s. Yet, pleasingly, there’s also a depth of talent fighting to join them at the top, as evidenced by 11 other race winners during the 2025 season.

Sutton’s team-mate Dan Cammish edged out reigning champion Jake Hill and fellow Alliance Ford racer Dan Rowbottom for best-of-the-rest honours, the trio all winning three races each.

Going from first to fourth was tough on Hill, who suffered a largely disappointing year in WSR’s BMW 330i – and what turned out to be his last in the BTCC, as he shifts his attention to a future in GT and sports car racing.

There were heart-warming returns to form for a couple of BTCC veterans. Tom Chilton, 40, won twice as Ingram’s Excelr8 team-mate, while Gordon Shedden, 46, scored a calm-headed first BTCC win since 2022 in a wet reverse-grid race at Oulton Park as the three-time champion launched a comeback in his Toyota Corolla.

Meanwhile, a new generation of tin-toppers broke through, including Charles Rainford, Daryl DeLeon and Mikey Doble. But can any of them take the fight to Ingram and Sutton across a full season in 2026? On the evidence of the one just past, the BTCC’s star acts still appear to be head and shoulders clear of the rest.

Formula E

Once considered among Britain’s best Formula 1 prospects, Oliver Rowland never made it onto a grand prix grid. But his subsequent decision to focus on Formula E finally paid off in spades in 2025, as he scooped a world championship with two races to spare in his seventh full season in the electric-powered single-seater series.

The 33-year-old won four times and scored three second places in the first nine races, a run of consistent form that led to rare domination in one of the world’s most competitive racing categories. Thus Nissan’s faith was justified: it had re-signed Rowland for 2024, having run him for three seasons in its previous e.Dams guise and after his two unhappy years at Mahindra.

The title was won in typical Rowland fashion at the Berlin double-header: through a fighting fourth place in the Sunday round after he had embarrassed himself with a clumsy clash with Stoffel Vandoorne’s Maserati on Saturday.

That made the season finale in London a dead rubber in terms of the drivers’ title, although Porsche sealed both the teams’ and manufacturers’ crowns at the Excel centre.

American racing

He won an incredible fourth title in just six years of Indycar racing, but what really made Álex Palou’s 2025 memorable was finally nailing the race that has always counted for so much more than US single-seater racing’s premier championship: the Indianapolis 500.

The last driver to win both Indy and the series title in the same year was Dario Franchitti, back in 2010. No Indycar career is complete without a victory at the Brickyard, and now that he has drunk the traditional quart of milk, Palou has little else to prove at this level.

The Indy win was his fifth from the first six rounds – and even then he had finished second in the one that escaped him at Long Beach. There was never any doubt that Chip Ganassi Racing’s Spanish maestro would be champion again.

Penske-run Porsche achieved far greater success in the IMSA Sportscar Championship than it managed in the WEC, and while it has pulled the plug on its world campaign, it will remain a force in the American arena next year.

Nick Tandy made history by completing a unique grand slam of the world’s most prominent 24-hours races, adding victory at Daytona to his ‘majors’ at Le Mans, Spa and the Nürburgring. But the Briton and his regular team-mate Felipe Nasr missed out on the IMSA title, which went instead to the drivers in the sister Porsche 963, Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell.

Nascar continued to tie itself in knots with its daft elimination Playoff system. A late caution triggered by William Byron hitting the wall at the Phoenix finale allowed Hendricks Chevrolet driver Kyle Larson to claim his second Cup title without leading a lap, snatching it away with a third-place finish from the deserving, plain unlucky and still Cup-less Denny Hamlin.
